Emilia, “La_Playlist.mpeg” (Sony Music Latin)

Stepping into a dance-pop groove flickering with Y2K nostalgia, “La_Playlist.mpeg” evolves Emilia's .mp3-themed releases, recalling classics like Vengaboys' “Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!”. Capturing the essence of the glitchy, vibrant pop tunes of the '90s and early 2000s, the track pays tribute to the era when mixtapes gave way to digital playlists. She conveys feelings of desire and connection with energetic persuasion, fusing a contemporary style with a retro vibe. As seen in the music video, this appeal is also expressed through playful references such as a blurry pink notebook and a lime-green iMac circa 1999. The Argentine pop star stands on the brink of a nostalgic yet innovative musical revival, initiating a new MPEG phase that bridges decades and eras of technology. — Isabella Raygosa
Karol G, “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido” (Bichota Records/Interscope Records)

“Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido” is the Colombian star's second single to gift fans this year, a meringue-drenched song. Already promising to be a summer hit, the sweet track explores in its lyrics the possibility of meeting a potential love interest before getting with someone else. “What would have happened?/ If I'd met you before/ Surely you'd have danced with me/ Not as a friend,” she sings in the catchy chorus.
Ahead of the release, the Colombian star shared a clip of the song, which was unveiled at a concert in London, on her social media, expressing her love for the Dominican Republic: “RD For me, this country is one that has given me so much.” In the music video, La Bichota transports us to the Caribbean, reflecting the warmth and joy of the country's people. Parts of the video see her leading an extended dance train. “This song represents the vibe of not only the country, but the Latin community around the world… it's bright, happy, cheerful and infectious,” she added. — Luisa Calle
Justin Killes x Lawayana, “BOOM BOOM” (Warner Music Latin)

For his first collaboration, Justin Killes teams up with Lawayana for “Boom Boom.” Co-produced by Botrock and Hooks Beat, this feel-good summer song fuses the Puerto Rican artist's distinctively sweet voice with the Venezuelan group's soothing reggae melody. In the flirtatious lyrics, the pair sing about the feeling of being “unfocused, caught in a vice,” “writing songs and dedicating captions,” and “floating without touching the sand” when they're near a girl they like. The music video was shot on a tow truck and features famous Patito Feo actress Brenda Asnicar as a model. “Boom Boom” is Killes' second single after “Su Gato” and will appear on his upcoming studio album, “Permanente.” — Jessica Royce
Inigo Quintero, “CLASSICO” (Acquisitive)

Iñigo Quintero kicked off the summer with his upbeat pop single “Classico,” seemingly addressing the unexpected fame he achieved in 2023 with the viral hit “Si No Estás.” The song not only launched him to fame, but also topped the Billboard Global Charts (excluding the U.S.). “I never wanted you/But you changed the way I talk/It was unexpected/You filled everything with your electricity,” the Spanish artist sings in a husky, passionate voice, before adding in the chorus, “You tried to kill me but I'm a classic guy/I don't appear on covers/Supernatural and on the radio/The most heard.” He may not have been prepared for what was to come, but with a string of releases since, Quintero has proven he's no one-hit wonder. He's here to stay. — SIGAL RATNER-ARIAS
