Justin Timberlake arrested for DUI in the Hamptons

Pop singer Justin Timberlake was arrested by local police in Sag Harbor, New York, on suspicion of drunk driving, multiple media outlets including the Associated Press, ABC News and CNN reported early Tuesday.

The arrest in East Hampton took place early Tuesday morning. Timberlake made his first court appearance later that day. He was charged with DUI and later released on bail.

According to a police statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Timberlake was observed driving a 2025 BMW southbound on Madison Street just after 12:30 a.m. local time on Tuesday “failed to stop at a required stop sign and failed to maintain his lane of travel.”

Sag Harbor Police officers pulled the entertainer over and “determined that Mr. Timberlake was operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Mr. Timberlake was arrested, processed and held overnight pending arraignment in the morning.”

A police statement said Timberlake was “released on bond” after being arraigned in Sag Harbor Village Court at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Court documents cited by the Associated Press in their report added, “He had bloodshot and hollow eyes, a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath, difficulty distributing his attention, slowed speech, was unsteady on his feet and performed poorly on standard field sobriety tests.”

Timberlake's next court appearance is scheduled for July 26th.

Sag Harbor criminal attorney Edward Burke Jr., who represents singer and Hollywood actor Timberlake, told THR on Wednesday, “I look forward to vigorously defending Mr. Timberlake against these charges. I will have much more to say at the appropriate time, but for now we are awaiting full discovery from the District Attorney's Office.”

Sag Harbor police and Timberlake's representatives have not yet responded to THR's requests for comment.

The DUI arrest and release comes ahead of Timberlake's two concerts scheduled this weekend at Chicago's United Center, as well as two more at Madison Square Garden in New York City on June 25th and 26th.

Timberlake's “Forget Tomorrow World Tour” is a promotional tour for his sixth studio album, “Everything I Thought I Was.” His latest album debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, making it the reigning Prince of Pop's first album to miss the top spot since 2002's “Justified.”

Timberlake is no stranger to media attention, having risen to prominence as a member of the hugely successful '90s boy band N'SYNC before going on to win a multi-platinum Grammy as a solo artist, and is also a highly acclaimed actor, appearing in films such as The Social Network, Friends with Benefits, Trouble with the Curve and Reptile.
