Kevin Costner maintains that he and Jewel are just friends.
The Bodyguard actor sparked rumors of a romantic relationship with the singer-songwriter in December after TMZ published photos of Kevin with his arm around Jewel's waist during an event at Richard Branson's Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands.
After months of speculation, the actor finally denied the rumors on The Howard Stern Show on Tuesday.
“Jewel and I are friends. We have never gone out,” he insisted. “She is someone special. I don't want to ruin our friendship with these rumors. That's what our friendship is.”
He went on to explain that he and Jewel were part of a group of nine people, including Harry Potter star Emma Watson, who spent three days on the private island in December.
“I was on a plane with nine people and Jewel was one of them. I had a lot of great conversations with her,” he continued.
“The rumor is that I went there with her on a private jet and came back on a private jet and I was with nine people. I don't want the press to ruin this. I've corresponded with her via email and she's very smart and has been through a lot herself so we've just been friends and we've never been romantically involved or dated. She's beautiful and smart enough for all of that but we've never had that.”
The 69-year-old, who has seven children, added that he had to explain the rumours to his children as they kept asking where Jewel was.
Kevin separated from his wife of nearly 20 years, Christine Baumgartner, in 2023, and their divorce was finalized in February.
