Usher revealed that he does a weekly fast, where he skips meals every Wednesday.
“I fast not for religious reasons, but because that's what my grandmother did,” the 45-year-old star told WSJ in an interview.
“I fast on Wednesdays, usually starting around 11pm the night before, and then I only drink water all day on Wednesday.”
When it comes to eating and drinking, the singer says she likes to start her day with “a hot drink made with lemon, ginger, water and cayenne pepper.”
He also revealed that he never eats before working out.
“I don't like to eat breakfast before any physical activity like working out, going for a walk, stretching or doing yoga, or sitting in the sun to increase the body's natural heat levels. I eat it afterwards.”
Meditation is also a big part of his routine: “I try to get up early so I have time to think,” he says. “Some days I'll pick up a book and read to stimulate my brain. Other days I'll just sit quietly and meditate.”
The eight-time Grammy Award-winning artist is currently working to get in shape for his upcoming tour in support of his ninth studio album, Coming Home.
“Usually my workout starts with walking or walking backwards on my knees to work my quads, knees and glutes,” he says. “Other than that, swimming is great for exercise and I also like cycling. I don't do much weightlifting.”
Usher performed at the Super Bowl halftime show in February, calling the high-octane spectacle the “hardest 15 minutes” of his life.
