Sugababes aren't worried about AI in the music industry because it has no soul – Music News

Sugababes aren't worried about AI's impact on the music industry.

The girl group, comprised of Siobhan Donaghy, 40, Mutia Buena, 39, and Keisha Buchanan, 39, aren't concerned about the impact AI might have on songwriters and performers because they believe the technology lacks the “heart and soul” that makes music special.

“I haven't really thought about it much. I just feel like we're just dealing with it. And I know some people are thinking about it but…” Mutiah told BANG Showbiz in an exclusive interview at the Capital Summertime Ball with BarclaysCard.

Then Siobhan chimed in: “I’ve heard that some people use it in writing rooms, and some people try it, but it’s not for us.

“It felt like I heard an AI version of us. Other people have said they could hear our voices in it, but to me, it just felt really unnatural. I didn't hear a heart or a soul, but I'm not worried about that at all.”

The trio, all of whose members had left the group before reforming in 2011, reflected on their “really amazing” time playing together again, and stressed that the group remains fully focused on releasing new music.

When asked what Sugababes accomplished this year that she was most proud of, Mutia replied, “I think it was being able to go on tour with the band and perform in front of all our fans.”

Siobhan added: “Only two weeks until Glastonbury!”

“It's really unbelievable because when we decided to get back together, of course we wanted to celebrate the hits, but we also just wanted to pursue our music careers again and make albums and stuff.

“We've been doing that all summer and I'm happy to be one of the people putting out music because I know not everyone gets the opportunity.”

The Sugababes took to the stage at London's Wembley Stadium on Sunday (June 16, 2024) to a sold-out crowd, with Keyshia later describing the experience as “amazing.”
