Scooter Braun has announced his retirement from artist management.
The music mogul announced on Instagram on Monday that he's retiring from managing artists, two years after unofficially stepping down from managing some of the industry's biggest stars, including Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber.
“23 years. That's how many years I've been a music manager,” Brown said in a statement. “My journey began 23 years ago as a 19-year-old in Atlanta, Georgia, managing an artist named Kate.”
The entrepreneur explained that he was focused on being a father to three children he has with ex-wife Yael Cohen and his role as CEO of entertainment and media company HYBE America, saying he was “a father first, a CEO second and I'm no longer a manager.”
Brown added that as a manager he has to respond to calls from clients all the time, which affects his personal life.
“But as my children grew and my personal life took its toll, I realized they were three superstars I didn't want to lose,” he wrote. “The sacrifices I was once willing to make could no longer be justified. It was time to step into a new role.”
He also said that working with Justin and Ariana was one of his “greatest honors.”
“It has forever been my greatest honor to watch Justin grow from a 13-year-old boy performing on the streets of Canada to the legends he is today as Ariana, a Nickelodeon starlet,” he wrote. “While our working relationship has changed, I continue to support them with the same passion as when they first began. I remember their shenanigans with Justin, their water park shows, and my excitement sidestage when Ari opened for her first arena tour.”
The announcement comes nearly a year after several artists, including Ariana, Justin and Demi Lovato, reportedly cut ties with the music executive.
