Tony Bennett's daughters are suing one of his brothers over his handling of a family trust.
Joanna and Antonia Bennett filed the lawsuit in New York State Supreme Court on Wednesday against D'Andrea “Danny” Bennett, who became sole trustee of the trust upon the jazz crooner's death in July 2023.
In the lawsuit, the sisters allege Danny mismanaged the trust and failed to report transactions and assets. For example, they estimate the 'I Left My Heart in San Francisco' singer has earned more than $100 million (£79 million) from live performances alone, yet they are alleged to have been told his estate was worth just $7 million (£5.5 million).
In their lawsuit, Bennett's daughters also name another brother, Dagal “Day” Bennett, and the singer's widow, Susan Crow. All four are listed as beneficiaries of the trust.
The sisters allege that Danny and his legal team “consistently failed and refused to provide them with sufficient information to fully identify and understand the estate and assets to which they have a right and interest as beneficiaries.”
They claim that despite multiple “requests for basic information” about the family trust and estate, Danny's team only provided “piecemeal information.”
“The information provided raises more questions than it answers and does not provide anything resembling a record of Tony's assets or financial situation,” the lawsuit states, USA Today reports.
They are seeking a full record of the family trust's financial activities and want the court to order Danny to properly administer the trust and produce any relevant documents.
The singer, whose real name was Anthony Benedetto, died in July 2023 at the age of 96 after a seven-year battle with Alzheimer's disease.
