Ben Platt talks about the meaning behind the title of his latest album, 'Honeymind'.
The singer and actor explained to US Vogue why he chose “Honeymind” as the title of his latest album, which was released on May 27th.
“I was on a hike with[fiancĂ©]Noah[Galvin]and we were having a really emotional conversation,” said Ben, 30. “It was essentially a physical manifestation of being in love. I was doing drugs at the time, but it was mainly about being in love and what that does to your brain.”
“I'm a very anxious person and I've found that love is such a great antidote and calming medicine for me,” he continued. “So visually, I imagine all the difficult things in my mind being covered with something sweet and warm and soft. And honey came to mind, so I wrote a song called Honey Mind. I thought it was a beautiful name for the whole album.”
Elsewhere in the interview, the Pitch Perfect star spoke about writing songs about his experiences as a queer man.
“So, first of all, I'm writing about what's happening to me and what's happened to me. That's all I can really write about,” he explained. “So naturally it's going to be a very explicitly queer experience in a lot of ways.”
Ben said he doesn't shy away from sharing personal details in his music.
“I didn't feel like redacting the details or the specifics of my experience for any reason, because unless it's very specific, it doesn't feel universal,” he told the magazine.
Ben and Noah began dating in December 2020 and announced their engagement in November 2022.
