Miley Cyrus accuses Grammys of 'not taking her seriously' – Music News

Miley Cyrus has slammed the Grammy Awards for not showing her any respect during the first 17 years of her music career.

The 31-year-old American singer and actress released her debut single in 2007 but claims that she had to wait until the release of her 2023 song “Flowers” to get her taken “seriously” at the prestigious awards ceremony.

She complained to W magazine: “No offense, but I've been doing this for 20 years and this is the first time I've been taken seriously at the Grammys?”

she lashed out, adding, “I had a hard time understanding what the measurement was there. Because if you want to talk about statistics and numbers, where the hell was I? If you want to talk about cultural impact, where the hell was I?”

She added, “This is not about arrogance. I'm proud of myself.”

Flowers won Miley both Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance at the 2024 Grammy Awards in February, but this isn't the first time she's been nominated by the Recording Academy.

In 2015, she was nominated in the Best Pop Vocal Album category for her breakthrough album, Bangerz, but lost to Sam Smith's album, In the Lonely Hour.

She received a related nomination at the 2022 awards, as Lil Nas X's album “Montero” was nominated for Album of the Year, and she co-wrote and provided guest vocals on one of the album's tracks.

Her latest album, Endless Summer Vacation, which includes Flowers, topped the UK album chart and peaked at number three in the US, while her 2013 album Bangerz topped charts around the world and sold over one million copies in the US alone.
