The Pixies' new double A-side single is inspired by movie zombie attacks and sci-fi “monster epic” vibes.
The group's album includes the songs “You're So Impatient” and “Que Sera, Sera”, both of which premiered on Steve Lamacq's BBC Radio 6 Music show.
“The Pixies create an eerie, cinematic portrait of American pop culture,” reads the press release for their new AA side release, released on Monday (03.06.24).
“You're So Impatient” has been described as a “fierce punk song” and “an explosive two minutes and nine seconds of zombie attack at a shopping mall.”
The release added that the Pixies “tell the 1950s classic 'Que Sera Sera' as a dark folk tale, retelling it through the lens of a sci-fi monster epic.”
The song was originally recorded as the soundtrack for the American television show “From”.
A limited edition 7-inch single containing these songs will be released on July 19th.
Black Francis, 59, the band's songwriter and guitarist, whose real name is Charles Michael Kittredge Thompson IV, said of the song “You're So Impatient”: “'You're So Impatient' is a suburban culture moment with a slightly comedic twist. There's a guy and a girl and they're having a love affair, but it's set in a shopping mall.”
“Shopping malls are sleazy, but they're also the setting for zombie and rock 'n' roll horror movies.”
This year has been billed as a landmark year for Pixies, as it marks 35 years since their breakthrough platinum album, Doolittle, catapulted the band into the UK Top 20.
It's been 20 years since their acclaimed reunion at Coachella.
The Pixies' new AA-side single comes amid a packed tour schedule that sees them play around 70 live shows around the world through 2024.
They've just kicked off a North American tour alongside Modest Mouse and Cat Power, and will return to the UK in August for sold-out headline shows including the Glasgow Academy and Halifax's Piece Hall.
The shows will mark Pixies' second visit to the UK this year, following a string of sold-out shows to celebrate the release of their Bossa Nova and Trompe le Monde albums, including three nights at London's Kentish Town Form.
