Normani reveals title of debut album – Music News

Normani has revealed what other titles she considered for her debut album before deciding on 'Dopamine'.

The Motivation singer declared on social media in 2018 that he had a title for his debut album, but didn't announce it until February of this year, when he told fans the album would be called “Dopamine.”

The former Fifth Harmony star had been working on his long-awaited solo album for six years and had explored other options before settling on Dopamine.

“That[2018 title]never saw the light of day,” she joked to ELLE. “At one point it was 1906 because that was the address of my grandmother's house where I grew up. Then it evolved into 'The Butterfly Effect.' It was the perfect title but it just didn't stand the test of time.”

The 27-year-old revealed that she and creative director Kwasi Fordjour chose the title “Dopamine” because it “represents the joys and sorrows that I've endured.”

“It's been a real rollercoaster of emotions,” Normani explained. “I wanted the title to really encompass everything that I've been through along the way to get to where I am now.”

Fans have been asking her when she would release the album since her 2018 social media post, but Normani claimed it took so long to release it because she didn't want to put out music that she “didn't wholeheartedly believe in.”

“I think there's a misconception that just because this process has taken so long means that I don't care or that I'm more interested in other things than releasing this body of work,” she said. “No one wants this project to come out more than I do, and at the end of the day, if I support this project wholeheartedly, then I don't think it matters what the world thinks.”

“Dopamine” will be released on June 14th.
