Take That takes a trip down memory lane – Music News

Take That took fans on a trip down memory lane in Milton Keynes on Thursday night (30th May 2024).

The second part of their This Life On Tour setlist at Stadium MK saw the trio look back over their long career in an '80s TV themed atmosphere, kicking off with the group's sixth single, “A Million Love Songs,” written by Gary Barlow when he was just 15 years old.

From there they performed their early hit “It Only Takes a Minute”, followed by “Pray” complete with their iconic dance routine, before recounting how they split up and began solo careers and Howard Donald introducing Gary on piano to sing the ballad “Forever Love”, followed by a lively rendition of “Clementine” by Mark Owen.

Howard performed “Speak Without Words,” a song he said he hadn't had the chance to release as a solo single, but had been wanting to share with his fans.

The trio then held a mock phone call discussing the possibility of reuniting 10 years after their breakup, before belting out their 2006 comeback song “Patience,” followed by “The Flood” from their reunion album with former member Robbie Williams, “Progress,” and closing with “Get Ready For It,” from “III,” their first album as a trio since Robbie and Jason Orange left the band.

The high energy show kicked off with the trio dressed in all black, treating fans to new songs like “Keep Your Head Up,” “Windows” and “Days I Hate Myself,” as well as old favourites like “Giants,” “Everything Changes” and “Sure.” Later numbers had the trio running around the stage and up and down two staircases, a central part of the setlist, but Gary admitted he was exhausted by the end.

For the second half of the show, the band donned striking metallic silver outfits, complete with crowns, and greeted fans as they walked to a small second stage in the center of the stadium, before returning to the main stage for “Relight My Fire,” amid fireworks that made it appear as if the staircase was on fire.

Fans shone their phone lights into the crowd during “Hold Up a Light” and the show ended with a sing-along of “Back For Good,” “You and Me” and “Never Forget” (which reappeared on a second stage) before the band performed “Rule the World” and the curtain came down as fireworks erupted in the sky.
